Off-Campus Access to Library Resources
When you access Library resources from Off-Campus, you will have to sign in to the Library proxy server. The server maaks your home IP address to let the resource know that you are in fact a member of the Downstate Community.
You will see a screen that looks like this.
The instructions say that your user name is your name as it appears on your ID card. That is a bit of an oversimplification. In many cases, regardless of what it says on your ID card, your user name is your first name and last name, separated by a space, first letter of each name capitalized - as if you were signing your name to a letter. If your ID card contains a middle initial, try signing in without the initial. If the card lists your middle name, your name may be in the database that way so go ahead and try it.
Password:
- If your ID card has a picture on the right side, your password is the 16-digit number under your last name - the one that starts "5081". Enter the number as a 16-digit number without spaces.
- If your ID card has a picture on the left side, and your are a student, your password is your Student ID number (labeled "SID" on the back of your card). Enter the number as written.
- If your ID card has a picture on the left side, and you are faculty, staff, or resident, your password is the number labeled "UID" on the back of your card. Enter the number WITHOUT the first four digits and without spaces. E.g: 2011 55 55 555555 would be entered as 5555555555.
- If your ID card has a picture on the left side, and you were issued the card at University Hospital of Brooklyn at Long Island College Hospital, your password is the number labeled "UID" on the back of your card. Enter the number WITHOUT the first four digits and without spaces. E.g.: 2011 55 55 555555 would be entered as 5555555555. Some, but not all numbers, start with 070. You need to leave that off as well (2011 070555 55 5555555 should be entered as 5555555555).
If you have problems logging in, contact the Library for assistance.
