Using CINAHL

To search for research instruments in CINHAL, it is best to choose the option "SmartText Searching" under "Search mode". This indicates to CINAHL that you want to search for a text string as a text string; it will search for a phrase as a phrase rather than searching for each individual term in a title as a keyword.

Enter the name of the instrument you are researching in the text box and then click on the green button labeled "Search".

Your search results are in the standard CINAHL format. You should be aware that the results will not only include articles that discuss the particular instrument you've searched for but also trials that used the instrument as the validation measure.

If you are not looking for a particular instrument, but want to know what instruments exist on a particular measure, you can search CINAHL by subject and then use the advanced search function to limit your search to the publication type "Questionnaire/Scale".
