Using the Library

The library is open to all members of SUNY Downstate Medical Center and all other SUNY campuses and physicians of affiliate institutions. Individual or group sponsorship by Downstate faculty is also available. Visitors of students, faculty or staff MUST obtain prior permission. See Access Services staff for details or call 718-270-7401. SUNY IDs or other approved cards MUST be displayed at all times. IDs are routinely checked as a measure to ensure the safety of all users.

Internet access is available through both a hard-wired network and wireless connection. Users with personal laptops and mobile devices are required to download CleanAccess and install the anti-viral software utilized by Downstate in compliance with campus requirements. Users must register their devices following the instructions found in PRIME. Technical help is available Monday-Friday between the hours of 12pm-1pm / 4pm-5pm in the Library Information Commons.

Remote access to library resources requires authentication through the proxy server. Your LotusNotes campus e-mail log-in or PRIME user ID and password will authenticate you and enable remote access to licensed resources.

The Library Information Commons located on the main floor of the library accommodates up to 85 users and caters to the needs of both collaborative and individual learners. The area is open 24/7 to SUNY Downstate ID Holders through the use of a pin code (see Access Services Staff) and provides high quality photocopying, printing and scanning services. Software will also allow users to create and manage documents. Staff assistance is available during staffed library hours.

CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE LIBRARY.

LIGHT FOOD IS ONLY ALLOWED IN THE DESIGNATED AREA OF THE LIBRARY INFORMATION COMMONS.

BEVERAGES ARE ONLY ALLOWED IN LIBRARY-APPROVED CONTAINERS.
