About the PC Training RoomsThe Alumni Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides 45 student workstations, 4 small group viewing room, a 24 hour study space/computer access room, and a PC Training Room. All resources are available to faculty, students, and staff at Downstate. Priority is given first to curriculum uses, then Administration uses, GME, Hospital and finally community uses (for a fee). The hours for the PC Training Room are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. The PC Training Room is located in the basement of the Medical Research Library. The Medical Research Library is housed in the Health Educational Building. LRC workstations provide curriculum, library, email, application, statistics, and intra/internet access. Computer printing, scanning, and imaging are available, Audiovisual equipment is present to support the AV collection. Thus, the LRC serves as a library based “academic computer center” for the institution. Special request for workstation use of the PC Training room is scheduled on a priority bases, then on a first come first serve basis. Our PC Training Room has 10 computers and a presenter’s workstation. All of the computers have flash card capabilities. LRC staff will work with the requestor in preparing the PC Training Room to support the curriculum, administrative, GME, and/or training activity. This requires planning between the LRC staff and the requestor. To achieve this, the following policy applies:
1) The requestor must complete a PC Training Room Form which is available in the Learning Resource Center. The fax number is 7471. The requestor must be affiliated with SUNY Downstate in order to book the PC training room. 2) If the requestor is scheduling the PC training room on behalf of an organization outside of SUNY Downstate, the user name must be added to the request. 3) If software has to be installed on the computer, the requestor must meet with a LRC staff member at least five days in advance. A date and time must be scheduled in order to make sure the software is compatible with our system. 4) If software is installed and if special arrangements are not made, software will be removed in one month. Please note: The Medical Research Library has a no food or beverage policy. Please inform all attendees of this policy.
