Overview of Library Resources

To assemble a profile of a particular community within the Brooklyn borough requires locating information about its households, services, institutions, land use, employment opportunities, and many other demographic details.  The materials on this list have been identified as resources that will assist you in your research.  In using these references, bear in mind that content and format for each source is different.  For example, the Census volumes (in this Library) represent New York State information on population and household characteristics. The vital statistics books are your major sources for birth and death rates.  For information on neighborhood data, we recommend health atlases, city agency directories, and Internet sites.
