Census Maps on the Internet

The Electronic Map Library  (http://geogdata.csun.edu/library.html)
A "must-see" online map collection.  For New York City, each one of these topics is represented on a series of maps: Population and Race; Ancestry; Income and Poverty; Adult Educational Attainment; Household Types; and Commuters.  All NYC Boroughs are clearly labeled.

Tiger Mapping Service  (http://tiger.census.gov/)
From the Tiger home page, you can find community-specific data two ways. 1) Use the 1990 Census Lookup (you must have Census Tract numbers) 2) Use the U. S. Gazetteer (you must have Zip Code).
The Census Lookup displays data in tables; the Gazetteer produces maps (you can cross-link to tables).

Creating your own neighborhood maps

 The miningco.com  (http://geography.miningco.com)
Lists links to map-generating programs, including MapsOnUs and MapQuest: Find A Map
Enter an address and produce a map of the surrounding neighborhood.

 Etak Geocoding  (http://www.geocode.com/)
This commercial service utilizes postal and census information to "track" you to an address and its associated census tract and block group numbers.  Frm the Etak opening page, use the
Eagle Geocoding link to get to the search form.

Both Alta Vista (http://www.altavista.com) and Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com)
Home pages contain a link called Maps.  Click on this link to use their map software.
