By
Anita Ondrusek
With
an estimated 57 million computer users on the Internet as of January
1997, this international resource has made its presence felt in many
aspects of information-sharing. The Library's database search screens
took on a Web look this year and the Library's Web site expanded to
include links to many health sciences-related resources. In response
to requests for Internet training, the Library's Educational Services
librarians are pleased to announce their World Wide Web teaching series:

A
Happy New Year to everyone! In the last issue of the bulletin,
we spoke of the electronic journals and books which the library was
planning to offer. Plans for this service are still moving ahead
and we are all anxious to see this project made operational. A
list of the 84 core biomedical journals which will be accessible in
full text as hot links from the bibliographic search utility, OVID,
is presented for your information (see attached pages). The library
has also, as part of its ongoing assessment of its collection, decided
to add 73 new titles in hard copy. However, as part of this assessment
process, the library has deaccessioned 42 of its titles. This
decision was based mainly on usage as these titles reflected zero usage
over a period of a year.
The
move towards electronic format is not limited to journals. We
are also planning to offer some electronic books through the Teton Data
Systems which will also be accessible through the OPAC. A partial
list of some of the proposed books includes:
Harrison’s
Principles of Internal Medicine
Goodman
and Gilman’s The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics
Williams’
Obstetrics
Robbins’
Pathology
Miller’s
Anesthesia
Your
suggestions are welcome. The Library’s Collection Development
Manager, Mohamed F. Hussain may be contacted at x7426 or via electronic
mail at: mhussain@netmail.hscbklyn.edu
