Reference Department Services

The Library's reference services have progressed along with technological advances, as web-based access to information becomes ubiquitous. In helping patrons access the universe of information most effectively, the reference librarians have assumed teaching and consultive positions. They are available to share their expertise with faculty, staff and students who are engaged in research projects and need advice on how to proceed in retrieving and utilizing information.

The reference librarians also maintain the reference collection, and provide orientations on Library resources. They are available at the Reference Services Desk, and On Call, and offer assistance whenever needed by students and staff. Reference queries through E-mail are also answered by the librarians.

The Library has a non-circulating collection of reference materials (directories, pharmacopoeias, encyclopedias, etc.), and materials electronically available.

The reference area has Computer Stations for finding information in the catalog and other databases and Internet access. Remote access to literature and database Searching is available to all current faculty, students and staff of the SUNY-Downstate campus using the SUNY Downstate Identity card. Inquire through Reference Services (x 7405) for further information.

Reference Staff is at the desk Monday - Friday 12 noon to 2 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm and on call from 9 am to 5 pm.
