INFORETRIEVER

InfoRetriever is a product growing out of work being done in the field of family practice.  Its "Information Masters" review the leading medical journals to present the highest levels of evidence available.   InfoRetriever provides a one-stop searching option in that the product covers all aspects of a particular condition including alternative medicine, patient education materials, and background information.

InfoRetriever is available to licensed users only.  To use the link below you must have a SUNY Downstate ID card.

How to Search

After clicking on "ACCESS InfoRetriever", click on the button for "Search InfoRetriever" on the left side of the screen.

Enter your search terms in the search box.  Typically, you will search on a particular condition (e.g. breast cancer) in this database.

Select the term that most accurately represents the information you want to search for and click on the button labeled "Find items with any keyword."

You will be presented with a menu for all aspects of this condition including background information, treatment, diagnosis, prevention and screening, prognosis, and epidemiology.  Select the particular intervention that you wish to explore.

How to Read  an Entry

Each entry in InfoRetriever starts with the "bottom line" - a summary by a specialist in the field - on the subject reported.  After the original citation, a description of the study design and setting is provided.  A brief synopsis of the study and its results closes out the report.  Clicking on the PubMed icon in the top right corner of the screen opens a separate window with the PubMed record for the original article.
